Dehradun, 27 Mar: The Uttarakhand chapter of SPIC MACAY organised a series of enriching classical music sessions featuring internationally acclaimed sarangi virtuoso Ustad Kamal Sabri, with support from SRF Foundation.The musical circuit witnessed captivating performances across multiple venues including Doon Library & Research Centre, Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (Haridwar), Special Home (Dehradun), Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, and Dolphin PG Institute, engaging students, faculty, and music enthusiasts alike.Accompanied by noted tabla artist Rajnish Mishra, Ustad Kamal Sabri presented soul-stirring renditions of Raag Shudh Sarang, immersing the audience in the depth and serenity of Indian classical music. In a unique and meditative experience, he also encouraged the audience to close their eyes and connect inwardly, creating an atmosphere of calm and introspection.
During the sessions, he interacted with students, offering insights into the nuances of ragas and taals, and explaining the emotional and spiritual essence behind each composition. A special highlight of his performances was Raag Shyam Kalyan. He also presented a composition dedicated to his father and guru, the legendary Ustad Sabri Khan, which deeply moved the audience.Ustad Kamal Sabri, a seventh-generation musician of the Moradabad Gharana, is widely recognised for his expressive artistry and innovative approach to the sarangi. A global ambassador of Indian classical music, he has performed at prestigious platforms worldwide and is known for expanding the instrument’s reach through cross-cultural collaborations.These sessions, organised under the SPIC MACAY initiative, aimed to introduce young audiences to the richness of India’s classical heritage while fostering a deeper appreciation for traditional art forms.
