Dehradun, 5 Mar: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women will launch a statewide ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ campaign in all the districts across Uttarakhand, under the ‘Mahila Aayog Aapke Dwar’ initiative.
Under the campaign ‘Mahila Aayog Aapke Dwar’ initiated by the National Commission for Women, the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women will organise a large-scale statewide campaign to promote women’s empowerment and safeguard their rights on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026.
Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal stated that special ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ programmes will be organised in all 13 districts of the state from 9 March to 13 March 2026.
Sharing details about the campaign, Chairperson Kusum Kandwal said that the Commission’s resolve is to provide every woman in the state with a safe and dignified environment. She added that due to geographical constraints, women living in rural areas are often unable to reach the headquarters. Therefore, the Commission itself is reaching their doorstep in an effort to ensure swift justice. Kandwal asserted that the Women’s Commission stands firmly with every woman who wishes to raise her voice for her dignity. The objective is that no aggrieved woman should remain deprived of the mainstream of justice.
Kandwal also clarified that the objective of this public hearing initiative is not only to receive new complaints, but also to review the present status of old cases related to women that are pending in various government departments.
During the public hearings, accountability of departmental officials the concerned will be fixed and it will be ensured that long-pending cases are disposed of on priority. Coordination will also be established with important departments such as police, social welfare, health and revenue to facilitate hearings in pending matters.
According to the proposed programme issued by the Commission, the public hearings will commence from 9 March. The Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and members of the Commission will personally remain present in different districts to preside over the programmes. Complaints relating to serious issues such as domestic violence, mental and physical harassment, dowry harassment and dowry death, property disputes, mental and sexual harassment at the workplace, human trafficking and denial of maternity benefits will be taken up on priority. District Magistrates, police administration and officials of the Legal Services Authority will also remain present during the public hearings in each district so that immediate legal action can be ensured in the cases.
In this regard, Kusum Kandwal has appealed to all women of the state to participate fearlessly in these public hearings on the scheduled dates and present their grievances and pending matters before the Commission.
