PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun  A majestic one kilometre long ghat on the river Yamuna in Haripur Kalsi area of Dehradun district is nearing completion.  On the occasion of the Krishna Janmashtami in 2024, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced that the State’s first grand ghat on Yamuna will be completed by July 2026.  In accordance with the CM’s  announcement, the project is progressing rapidly. Once complete, the project will re-establish Haripur Kalsi as a religious and spiritual pilgrimage site. The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has been designated as the nodal agency for the Ghat’s construction.   The local people had told the CM that despite the fact that the Yamuna originates in Uttarakhand at Yamunotri, there is no developed ghat in the State on the river where devotees could bathe and perform religious rituals. Dhami took this need seriously and included it in the BJP’s election manifesto. When complete the one-kilometre long ghat will have the distinction of being the first grand Yamuna Ghat in Uttarakhand capable of accommodating thousands of devotees. The MDDA is also installing a 25-foot-tall statue of Mother Yamuna on the pillar of the old bridge near the Haripur Yamuna Ghat. Land has also been earmarked for the construction of a grand temple near the ghat. As per the historical records, the Haripur Yamuna Ghat was once a major religious pilgrimage site which was washed away in a major flood.  CM Dhami said that the State government is committed to develop the Haripur Yamuna Ghat into a major religious site. He added that once complete this project will become a centre of devotion for millions of devotees of Lord Krishna and Mother Yamuna. He said that funds have been allocated for this project in this year’s budget and the administration has been directed to complete the work by July.
