Dehradun, 19 Aug: A serious allegation of police brutality has been made against the police officials in the Premnagar police station area. According to the allegation levelled by a student and his female companion, the police personnel posted at the Bidholi police outpost allegedly thrashed him and misbehaved with his female companion. The victim has claimed that while riding a two-wheeler without a helmet, the police stopped him and instead of issuing a challan for penalty, demanded money as a bribe. When he began recording the incident on his mobile phone, the policemen reportedly dragged him inside the outpost and beat him mercilessly.
The female student accompanying him also accused the policemen of misbehaviour and inappropriate conduct during the incident. A video of the episode along with the victim’s statement has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among local residents and students.
In view of the sensitivity of the matter, senior police officials have ordered an inquiry against the accused personnel of Bidholi outpost and have assured strict disciplinary action. The incident has triggered widespread anger and raised questions about accountability and conduct within the force.
