

my uttarakhand news BureauDehradun, 24 Dec: At the annual cultural and felicitation ceremony organised at DAV Inter College, Karanpur, the Chief Guest, Major General Sanjay Sharma, emphasized that students and teachers must work together to ensure their active role in nation building. He especially urged NCC cadets to join the armed forces as officers and contribute to the security of the nation.Major General Sharma stated that national security is paramount, and the construction of a strong nation is possible only through excellent education and quality training.Dr S Farooq presided over the function and in his address greeted the Principal, Dr Srivastava, for the contributions during his tenure and urged children to concentrate on their chosen subjects and appreciated the cultural programme.The distinguished guest and MLA from Rajpur constituency, Khajan Das, said that student life forms the strong foundation of future life; therefore, energy should be directed in the right direction to achieve goals. He announced a grant of ₹10 lakh from the MLA fund for the development of the school by the month of March, which was welcomed with applause by those present.Special guest and BJP State Secretary Neha Joshi said that, along with education, participation in literary and cultural activities is essential for the all-round personality development of students.The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Major General Sanjay Sharma, MLA Khajan Das, Neha Joshi, Alumni Association President Dr S Farooq, General Secretary Dr Anil Verma, and Principal Dr AK Srivastava.As part of the felicitation ceremony, Principal Dr AK Srivastava was honoured with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Alumni Association for his distinguished contributions and exemplary services in the field of education.Meanwhile, former student of the college and eminent blood donor Dr Anil Verma was honoured with the “DAV Param Raktveer Nayak Award” for his initiative during the 1971 Indo–Pakistan War, when he, as CCPO of the NCC Naval Wing, organised blood donation for injured soldiers with 110 cadets, and for personally donating blood 155 times to date.During the award distribution, college toppers in academics—Rehans, Sandeep Bharti, Nitin Pandey, Bhawani Prasad Yadav, Rahul, Mansi, and Jia Parveen—were awarded gold medals.Rakesh Kumar was honoured as Best Teacher, Dr Babita Sahotra received the Best and Multi-Talented Teacher Award, and Indrapal was awarded as Best Clerk. Retired teachers Dr Sachan, Bhushan Nautiyal, and RK Chawla were also felicitated.In sports, at the national level, Ayush Kumar (handball) and Nitin Valdiya, Utkarsh, Sagar Bahadur, Vansh Kumar, and Saurabh Kumar (football) were honoured. At the state level, Mohan Bisht, Anoop Negi, and Abhinav Kumar received awards.On this occasion, students and officials associated with NSS and NCC were also honoured for their outstanding contributions.The ceremony featured cultural performances, including Ganesh Vandana, a presentation based on the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, Garhwali, Kumaoni, and Jaunsari folk dances, break dance, band performances, and plays based on environmental conservation, which captivated the audience.The event was attended by former Vice-Chancellor of Garhwal University Dr IP Saxena, principals of various colleges, former IG SS Kothiyal, along with a large number of academicians, teachers, parents, and students.
