Tapas Chakraborty to receive ‘Sahitya Saraswati Samman’ from ‘Kadambari’

Dehradun, 8 Oct: The internationally acclaimed literary, cultural, and social organisation, ‘Kadambari’, from Jabalpur will honour Tapas Chakraborty with the prestigious ‘Sahitya Saraswati Samman’ for his ‘outstanding contributions to travelogue writing’. A five-member selection committee has chosen writers for their remarkable contributions across various literary genres. The award will be presented to him during the ‘Kadambari Sahitya Samaroh’, which is to be held on 22 November in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Currently, Tapas Chakraborty is Assistant Commissioner at the Central Goods and Services Tax Commissionerate in Dehradun. His deep passion for travel and photography has led him to explore numerous captivating tourist destinations across India and abroad. He has several travelogues to his credit: Ruk Jana Nahi (2016), Mandiron Ka Nagar: Bishnupur (2018), Avismarniya Europe (2019), Uttarakhand: Himalaya Ki God Mein (2022), and Hampi: Utkarsh Se Apkarsh Tak (2025). For ‘Ruk Jana Nahi’ he was awarded the ‘Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar’ by Ministry of Home (Government of India) in 2016, and for ‘Mandiron Ka Nagar: Bishnupur’, he received the ‘Rahul Sankrityayan Paryatan Puraskar’ from the Ministry of Tourism (Government of India) in 2018-19. Moreover, in 2024, ONGC honored Tapas Chakraborty with the ‘Uttarakhand Sahitya Samman’ for his literary contributions.
Beyond travelogues, Chakraborty has showcased his literary prowess in fiction and non-fiction, both. His short story collection ‘Tinke’ (2011) and English non-fiction work “Crime Stories That Shook The Nation” (2025) have been widely appreciated by the readers. His works are a testament to his sensitivity, keen observation, and powerful expression.
