PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the officials concerned to incorporate the teachings of Shrimad Bhagvad Gita into the school curriculum. He said this during a review meeting with the Education department on Tuesday. Dhami emphasised the need for a clear 10-year plan focused on innovation in education. He instructed the Education department to create a “silver celebration calendar” outlining various educational activities to be completed by December 2026. Additionally, he stated that all schools in the state should be inspected before the onset of the monsoon to assess the condition of school roads, bridges and other basic facilities. CM also said that officials should make a proposal to study best practices from other states to facilitate residential hostels in cluster schools, ensuring that children receive better accommodations. In the first phase, one residential hostel should be established in each district. He urged officials to prepare a proposal for a transportation system for students living within a 15-kilometre radius of the 559 cluster schools. Dhami stressed the importance of timely delivery of textbooks each year and he called for complete transparency in the transfer process within the Education department. Proposals should be developed after a thorough examination of all aspects at the district, division and state levels. He advocated for the promotion of the National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme in schools, suggesting that schools lacking these facilities be selected in a phased manner. To enhance the education system in the state, the CM recommended seeking cooperation from local industrial establishments under the CSR Fund. He called for expedited repairs to dilapidated schools, emphasising the necessity of ensuring children’s safety. Strict action will be taken against those who are negligent in safeguarding children, he said.  Dhami highlighted the need for effective implementation of the National Education Policy-2020 within the state. He said to incorporate moral education, environmental education, cultural heritage, profiles of notable figures, skill development aligned with regional needs, health education, folk tales, folk literature, music and art into the curriculum.
