Tehri Lake Festival echoes message of environmental conservation

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Dehradun, 7 Mar: The Uttarakhand Government has claimed that a strong message of environmental conservation is resonating effectively through the Tehri Lake Festival and that this has turned the tourism event into a platform for promoting ecological awareness. Much like the National Games, this event too has been linked with an environmental theme. This is the first time that the Tehri Lake Festival has been associated so prominently with a message of environmental protection.
It may be recalled that the full name of the festival that has emerged this year is the ‘Himalayan O2 Tehri Lake Festival’. With the addition of “Himalayan O2” to the name of the festival, discussions on environmental conservation have also gained prominence. Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal said that while preparing the blueprint of the event, the idea emerged that awareness about environmental protection should also be promoted. In line with this thought, “Himalayan O2” was added to the name of the festival.
The officials have also claimed that the state government has been consistently linking a message of environmental conservation with every major event it organises. The National Games held in 2025 were also centred on an environmental theme. The initiative of the state government had received widespread attention across the country, as environmental conservation was given special emphasis in various aspects of the event—from the establishment of green forests to the medals presented to the athletes and other related activities.
Commenting on this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami observed that the concern over environmental protection across the country and the world makes it essential to continuously work towards spreading awareness. Uttarakhand carries very high expectations in this regard. The state government also recognises its responsibility in this matter, which is why environmental themes are being linked with major events.
