The anti-conversion law to be made more stringent  PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun The Uttarakhand government has decided to provide 10 per cent horizontal reservation to former Agniveers on the group D posts in police, fire services and other uniformed positions in different departments of the State.   A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday. The benefit of reservation will be given to the Agniveers having a certificate of retirement from the service. The former Agniveers will also be given exemption from the physical efficiency test. Apart from this, the former Agniveers will be given relaxation in the maximum age limit equivalent to the total service rendered in the Indian Army. The former Agniveers will be eligible for recruitment in the posts of Police constables ( Civil and PAC), sub inspectors, platoon commander PAC, Fireman, Fire fighter, prison guard and similar positions in Excise, enforcement and Forest departments and the secretariat security. The first batch of Agniveers will retire from the Army in 2026. The cabinet also approved the proposal to amend the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion act (anti-conversion law). The objective of the government is to make the anti-conversion law more stringent. The government will table the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (amendment) bill 2025 in the Vidhan Sabha.  The amended law will have a provision of a minimum imprisonment of three years for forced religious conversions, fraudulent impersonation which is extendable for 10 years. The cabinet also approved the plan to restructure the Uttarakhand Project Development and Construction Corporation Limited (UPDCC) and establishment of two programme implementation units (PMU) in the UIIDB. The cabinet also waived off the SGST of Rs 22.73 crore on the capital expenditure of Rs 310.60 crore incurred by the government of India for realignment of the National Highway 87 for the extension of Pantnagar Airport. The proposal to create an additional post of vice president in the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC).
