
Dhami cabinet pays tribute to Diwakar Bhatt PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Uttarakhand government has increased the monetary compensation given to the affected families in the cases of human-wildlife conflict. The family of the deceased in such cases will now get a compensation of Rs 10 lakh. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday. Informing about the decision, the director general (DG) information Banshidhar Tiwari said that at present a compensation of Rs six lakh is given to the deceased family in the cases of human-wildlife conflict. He said that the cabinet endorsed the proposal to amend the ‘human-wildlife conflict, distribution of compensation rules-2024. In 10th meeting of the governing council of the Tiger Conservation Foundation for CTR held recently, a decision to increase the compensation was taken. In view of the increasing cases of attacks by wildlife in Uttarakhand especially leopards and bears, CM Dhami had recently announced that the compensation to the victim families in cases of human-wildlife conflict will be increased. In another important decision, the cabinet also approved the proposal to provide conditional relaxation to the women workers in the shops and business establishments in doing night shifts. Following the relaxation, the women workers can now work in the night shift (9 PM to 6 AM), if proper security arrangements are made. The women workers will have to provide written consent to work in the night shift. Tiwari said that the decision will help in providing more opportunities to work and help in their economic empowerment. The measure will also help in ensuring gender equality. The cabinet also approved the proposal to hand over the proposed Neo Metro project in Dehradun to the Housing and Urban Development departments. The cabinet paid tribute to former cabinet minister and statehood activist Diwakar Bhatt who passed away yesterday by observing a silence of two minutes.
