Monday, 26 February 2024 | my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Uttarakhand is progressing swiftly in the sphere of dairy production. He said this after administering the oath of office to newly elected office bearers of dairy production committees of seven districts including Chamoli, Pauri, Dehradun, Almora, Champawat, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar on Sunday at the CM residence. Dhami said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring the prosperity of farmers and those in animal husbandry in the rural areas. The State government is also implementing various schemes to ensure their welfare. He said that the Uttarakhand Dairy Federation is doing commendable work when it comes to purchasing milk from dairy producers, purchasing cow dung under the Govardhan scheme and ensuring that farmers in remote rural areas also learn about the innovations related to animal husbandry. The CM said, “It is due to the hard work of our farmers that daily milk production which was about 1,90,000 lietres in 2020-21 increased to about 2,18,000 litres per day in 2023-24. The ratio of this growth can be increased further if we work on innovations in the sector. At present the Nainital district is producing the maximum quantity of milk. Research should be conducted to see what the Nainital farmers and dairy producers are doing to achieve such a high milk production. Understanding which breeds of cows and buffaloes they are rearing, what fodder they are giving and the atmosphere they are keeping the cattle in and explaining this to farmers in districts with low milk production will achieve an increase in milk production,” Dhami said. He further said that the government is also making consistent efforts for improvement of cow breeds in the State. The milk yield from the State’s Badri cow had dropped considerably and after improvements in the breed, the milk production capacity of this breed has doubled, he said. Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development minister Saurabh Bahuguna the State government has resolve pendency cases of incentives to milk producers and also provided advance to them. The government is working on marketing and branding plan to provide more benefit to milk producers.
