
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun The Uttarakhand government has decided to provide the benefit of ‘equal pay for equal work’ principle to the workers of the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) who have completed 10 years of service. A total of 8,000 workers are expected to benefit from the decision. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday. Informing about the decision of the State cabinet, the secretary Shailesh Bagauli said that the cabinet studied the proposals of the cabinet subcommittee headed by minister Subodh Uniyal on the UPNL workers and endorsed the plan to provide benefit of equal pay for equal work to UPNL workers who have completed 10 years of the service. These employees will be absorbed in the departments they are working as contractual workers. In the first phase the workers appointed before 2015 will be absorbed as contractual workers in the departments. In another important decision, the cabinet approved the proposal to amend the Uttarakhand Tourism, travel businesses and bread and breakfast regulation-2025. Now the benefit of the Homestay scheme will be extended only to the local people. The cabinet also endorsed the plan to provide a State guarantee of Rs 270 crore to the Sugar mills for the crushing season 2025-26. The sugarcane of Ageti variety will be purchased at a minimum price of Rs 405 per quintal. The cabinet also approved the proposal of the Horticulture department to provide 25 per cent additional subsidy on anti-hale net under the National Horticulture Mission. The farmers use the net to save the crops of apple, plum and peach from hailstorms.A subsidy of 50 per cent is provided from the Union government for anti-hail net. In another decision, the cabinet approved the plan to amend the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft. The time period for registration of marriages for those married before January 2025 has been extended to one year from the existing six months. The cabinet also approved the plan to create six posts in the Centre of Hindu Studies of Doon University. The cabinet unanimously decided to authorise CM Dhami for taking a decision on time and place for the winter session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha.
