
CM exhorts people to light 5 Diyas for martyrs on foundation day PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The Uttarakhand government increased the pensions of the statehood activists on the eve of the State’s 25th foundation day. The pension of the activists who were jailed for seven days during the statehood movement or were injured during it will be increased from Rs 6,000 per month to Rs 7,000 per month. The announcement of the enhanced pension was made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in a programme organised at Police Lines on Saturday. The CM also offered floral tributes to statehood martyrs at the martyrs’ memorial at the collectorate. The CM announced that the statehood activists who were either jailed or injured during the statehood movement will be increased from Rs 4,500 per month to Rs 5,500 per month. He said that the statehood activists who got disabled and completely bedridden during the movement will be increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per month. The pension of the dependents of those martyred during the statehood movement will be increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,500 per month. The CM appealed to the people that they should light five lamps in their homes on State Foundation day in memory of the martyrs of the statehood movement. The CM said the creation of the state of Uttarakhand was not merely a political decision, but the result of the sacrifice, struggle, and austerity of millions of people from Devbhoomi. He said that tragic incidents like Khatima, Mussoorie, and Rampur Tiraha during the Uttarakhand movement are immortal chapters in our history. Paying homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the creation of Uttarakhand, the CM said that the State government has always and will continue to give top priority to the statehood activists. He said that the pension and other benefits provided to the statehood activists is a symbol of gratitude from the State. The CM added the State government will always remember the contributions of the agitators and incorporate their spirit into every policy and decision. Dhami said that the spirit of the statehood movement is our inspiration to achieve the goal of making Uttarakhand the best state in the country. Cabinet ministers Ganesh Joshi and Subodh Uniyal, MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Khajan Das, Umesh Sharma Kau and Savita Kapoor and others attended the programme.
