Uttarakhand Rain Alert: Heavy Rain Likely Till Sept 2 – my uttarakhand news

Dehradun: Monsoon activity is set to intensify across Uttarakhand, with the Meteorological Centre issuing a special weather bulletin forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the state from August 29 to September 2. According to Dr CS Tomar, Director of the Meteorological Centre, the weather conditions are being influenced by multiple systems. A low-pressure area has developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha and is expected to become more organised and move further during the next 48 hours. The monsoon trough is extending from Amritsar towards the low-pressure system, while a Western Disturbance remains active over northern Pakistan. The combined influence of these systems is likely to strengthen rainfall activity over Uttarakhand. Yellow Alert for August 30 A Yellow Alert has been issued for August 30, with forecasts of heavy to extremely intense spells of rainfall in Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Bageshwar. The weather department has urged residents and visitors in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant as intense rainfall could lead to sudden changes in local weather and river conditions. Orange Alert for August 31 Rainfall activity is expected to intensify further on August 31. An Orange Alert has been issued for Dehradun, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Nainital, where heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast. A Yellow Alert has also been issued for Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar for heavy rainfall. Rain Likely to Continue Into September The wet spell is expected to continue into September, with heavy rainfall forecast on September 1 and 2 in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital and Haridwar. The Meteorological Centre has warned that intense rainfall may create hazardous conditions in hilly and low-lying areas. Landslides, Flash Floods Among Key Risks The department has cautioned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could trigger landslides, rockfalls and debris flows, potentially disrupting traffic and blocking roads and highways. Low-lying areas may experience waterlogging, while sudden rises in water levels could result in flash floods in rivers, streams and drains. The rainfall may also cause damage to mud houses, under-construction bridges and Kharif crops, including paddy and maize. Disruptions to power and water supplies, as well as air services, are also possible in affected areas. Caution Advised for Char Dham Yatra Residents of landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain particularly alert during the spell of intense rainfall. The weather department has also urged pilgrims and tourists to exercise extreme caution while travelling through mountainous terrain. Travellers have been advised to undertake the Char Dham Yatra only if absolutely necessary during periods of adverse weather and to exercise additional
