Uttarakhand weather update: Forecast for rain in the hills, temperature rise in the plains – my uttarakhand news

The weather in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand is set to take a turn once again. Over the next 24 hours, light rain and snowfall are expected across the stretch from Uttarkashi to Pithoragarh, while temperatures in the plains are poised to rise. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in the higher mountainous regions of the state today—May 15. Snowfall is particularly likely in locations situated at altitudes exceeding 4,500 meters.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Almora, and Pithoragarh. In some parts of these districts, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur, and strong winds gusting between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour are expected. The weather in these districts has appeared rather turbulent since last Thursday, an impact of which may still be witnessed today.

Temperatures to Rise in the Plains Today

In contrast to the mountains, the weather in the districts of the plains is expected to remain clear and dry for the time being. Looking back at the last 24 hours, the highest temperature—36.0°C—was recorded in Roorkee (Haridwar), while the lowest temperatures—11.9°C—were recorded in Mukteshwar and Ranichauri. Over the coming 4 to 5 days, the heat in the plains is expected to intensify further, with temperatures potentially rising by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

Outlook for the Coming Days

Tomorrow(May 16) and the following day (May 17) there remain chances of light rain and thundershowers in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. However, from May 18 to May 20, the weather is expected to remain clear across the entire state. Meanwhile, around May 16, conditions are becoming favorable for the advancement of the monsoon from the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar region. Additionally, a new ‘Western Disturbance’ may also impact Northwest India.
