PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun In a surprise development, Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post citing ‘health care, medical advice’ reason on Monday after presiding over the first day of the Monsoon Session as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,” Dhankhar, 74, said in his letter to the President. Dhankhar had been elected as India’s 14th Vice-President in August 2022, and had two years left for his term to complete. The resignation gave spark to several political speculations, which started with nominations of members to Upper House, followed by rejig of Governors of few States and latest meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. It also relates to the talks of RSS that those holding constitutional post should demit office before 75 years of age however Dhankhar was to attain the age next year. Tuesday’s proceedings is scheduled to be conducted by Deputy Chairman Harivansh.
