CM Dhami to table the Budget 2026-27 on the opening day itself PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Karnprayag The budget session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha will commence on Monday at Bharadisain in the State’s summer capital Gairsain. The session will start with the address of the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh. One of the features of the session is that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who also holds the Finance portfolio will table the general budget of the State for the year 2026-27 on the first day of the session itself. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the house. The meeting was chaired by speaker Ritu Khanduri and attended by CM Dhami and Parliamentary Affairs minister Subodh Uniyal. The business of the house for first two days was decided in the meeting. The Parliamentary Affairs minister said that the budget would be tabled at 3 PM on Monday after the address of the governor. He said that discussion on address of the governor will be held in the house on Tuesday. The Congress members boycotted the meeting of the BAC. The decision to table the budget on the very first day is a deviation from the normal practice where the house conducts no other business after the address of the governor. It is expected that the CM Dhami will table a budget of Rs 1.10 lakh crore in the Assembly. With the Vidhan Sabha election scheduled in early part of 2027, it is expected that the Dhami government will table a populist budget aimed at wooing farmers, unemployed and women. Earlier, after arriving in Bharadisain, CM Dhami met the speaker Khanduri and leader of opposition Yashpal Arya. Opposition to corner government on various issues The budget session of the Vidhan Sabha is likely to be stormy with the opposition Congress determined to corner the State government on the issues of deteriorating law and order situation, increasing crimes against women, corruption and unemployment. The leader of opposition in the Assembly, Yashpal Arya said that the decision of the State government to table the budget on the very first day is against the parliamentary traditions and the norms. He said that the BJP government has no respect for the constitution and parliamentary traditions. Arya added that he has been a member of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha in his long political career but had never seen any government table the budget on the very first day of the session.
