PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that women are increasingly exploring career opportunities in sports and other diverse fields, indicating a bright future for the State. He said this remark while honouring Uttarakhand’s international female bodybuilder Pratibha Thapliyal for her outstanding achievements in bodybuilding. Dhami said that Thapliyal’s accomplishments are a source of pride for Uttarakhand’s women and represent a powerful step towards women’s empowerment. He said that her success will inspire the daughters of the State, particularly those living in remote mountainous regions, to pursue various fields, including sports. He further said that women in the mountainous regions have played a central role in agricultural, social and cultural life. Over the years, the women of Uttarakhand have guided the nation and the world in areas such as environmental protection, social service, sports and good governance. “Efforts will also be made to provide opportunities in government service for talented women in the State who achieve remarkable feats in various fields, encouraging them to be a source of inspiration for society,” Dhami said. It is important to note that Thapliyal (43) has achieved significant milestones in the past four years. These include winning a gold medal at the National Bodybuilding Championship in 2023, a bronze medal at the Asian Bodybuilding Championship and another gold medal at the National Women’s Bodybuilding Competition held in Karimnagar, Telangana, on February 9, 2026. Thapliyal has also earned medals at the Women’s World Championships and Asian Championships. The State government is committed to providing every possible encouragement and support to women athletes, ensuring that the daughters of Uttarakhand continue to wave the flag of success on national and international platforms.
