Workshop on Child Rights & Child Safety held at Lansdowne Cantonment

LANSDOWNE, 11 Dec: Child abuse is a sensitive yet serious issue, and ensuring the safety of every child is a shared responsibility. With this objective, a workshop for primary and junior-level students was successfully organised on Tuesday by the Cantonment Board, Lansdowne in collaboration with the NGO Child Chapter Association to spread awareness on Child Rights and Child Abuse.
The workshop was especially important because child abuse often remains ignored and hidden, as the perpetrators are frequently someone close to the victim, and many children are either unable to explain what is happening or are afraid to speak out.

A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of 1,000 free comic books in English and Hindi to students from all schools of Lansdowne. These child-friendly comics, titled “Raise Your Voice”, explain good touch and bad touch through illustrations, helping children understand safety in a simple and effective way.
Another special initiative was the introduction of a daily emotion calendar as a home assignment. Children were asked to mark how they feel each day and show it to their teachers regularly. This will help identify emotional distress and possible cases of abuse at an early stage.
The workshop witnessed participation from all schools of Lansdowne, including PM SHREE Kendriya Vidyalaya, Army Public School, Shaurya Primary School, St John Convent School, Saraswati Shishu Mandir, and Cantonment Board Primary School.
The session was conducted by Jakeer Hussain Sheikh, Child Rights Activist and Founder, Child Chapter Association. Fun activities and competitions were also organised, and winners were rewarded.
A “Kindness Class” by Mohd Saquib Alam, CEO, Cantonment Board, Lansdowne, concluded the programme, encouraging empathy, care, and respect among children.
