World Health Day 2026: Public Awareness Programme held at SOSC

Dehradun, 7 Apr: On the occasion of World Health Day, today, a programme was organised at Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine and Maternity Centre, here, to raise awareness about health, road safety, and public responsibility. The event began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Chief Guest Health Minister Subodh Uniyal, along with RS MP Naresh Bansal, Padma Shri awardee Kanhaiya Lal Pokhriyal, Dr SN Singh, Orthopaedic surgeon, Padma Shri awardee Dr BKS Sanjay, and Dr Gaurav Sanjay, Orthopaedic surgeon.
President, AIIMS Guwahati, Dr BKS Sanjay highlighted that India witnesses nearly 5 lakh road accidents every year, claiming over 1.5 lakh lives. He emphasised creating a nationwide movement for road safety, incorporating it into education, and establishing AIIMS institutions as “Road Safety Knowledge Centres”.
Health Minister Subodh Uniyal announced two new policies of the Uttarakhand Government: specialist doctors will serve in hill regions on a six-month rotation, and residential facilities for their families will be provided in Dehradun and Haldwani.
Guest of honour Naresh Bansal stressed that accidents continue due to non-compliance with rules and said, “Only a healthy generation can realise the vision of a developed India.” Kanhaiya Lal Pokhriyal urged citizens to maintain cleanliness, while Dr SN Singh highlighted the need for physical, mental, and social balance and raised concern over rising substance abuse among youth.
Dr Gaurav Sanjay explained the ‘One Health’ concept, connecting human, animal, and environmental health, emphasising clean air, safe water, nutritious food, and balanced diets.
Chairman Kalyan Sinharawat, Padma Shri Awardee, reminded that road safety is every citizen’s responsibility.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a pledge for a safer, healthier, and aware society.
