The entire incident was not only captured on CCTV cameras, but the accused youths themselves made a video of it and uploaded it on Instagram, where it went viral. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Mussoorie Municipal Council and the police have started preparations for strict action.
According to the information received, on New Year’s Eve, some youths arrived on the Mall Road in a car. Vehicles were being stopped at the barrier as per the rules, but these youths ignored the personnel stationed at the barrier, did not stop their car, and sped through, breaking the barrier. Surprisingly, the youths shared the video of the barrier-breaking incident on their Instagram page, which quickly went viral. The video clearly shows the Mall Road barrier near Picture Palace being damaged.
Mussoorie Municipal Council Assistant Executive Officer Gaurav Bhasin said that the incident of breaking the barrier is serious. A complaint has been registered at the Mussoorie Kotwali (police station) based on the CCTV footage and the video that went viral on social media. Strict action has been demanded against the culprits. Mussoorie police have started investigating the entire matter. Kotwal Manoj Aswal said that the number plate of the vehicle was “Applied For”, but the vehicle and the youths are being identified based on technical evidence. The Instagram page ID is also being investigated to reach the accused. He clearly stated that such anarchy and damage to public property will not be tolerated in the tourist town of Mussoorie. Strict legal action will be taken against the culprits. The administration has appealed to tourists to celebrate the New Year responsibly and within the bounds of the law. Strict action will be taken against those who disrupt law and order in sensitive and crowded tourist destinations like Mussoorie.
