PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented appointment letters to 144 candidates selected for various posts in the Irrigation department and 43 eligible dependents selected for various posts in the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) here on Sunday. Congratulating the appointees, the CM exhorted them to work with honesty, dedication, transparency and a sense of responsibility. He said that the State government has also facilitated the appointment of the dependents of those who died while in service, which had been pending for a long time. In addition to 43 such persons appointed now, 150 such eligible dependents had been appointed last year. Due to the efforts of the State government the UTC had generated a profit of more than Rs 56 crore in 2024, he said. Dhami said that earlier there was considerable partiality, irregularities and corruption in appointments to government jobs in the State. Considering the problems faced by the youths, the State government brought a strict anti-copying law to check malpractices in recruitment exams. The recruitment in the State is now being done with transparency on the basis of merit, ensuring that able candidates benefit fully from their skill and hard work, he said. The CM further said that more than 23,000 youths have succeeded in securing government jobs in the State during the past three and a half years. He said that the government had adopted a policy of zero tolerance for corruption with nobody being spared now in cases of corruption. Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had requested citizens to use Swadeshi products, Dhami exhorted Uttarakhandis to use Swadeshi and local products. Addressing those appointed to the Irrigation department, he said that they prepare the outline for development. Irrigation schemes are being expanded consistently in the State and the new appointees will use their technical skills to ensure that the farmers get enough water for their farms. Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj recalled that more than 23,000 youths had been given appointment letters to government jobs under CM Dhami. He said that there has been a considerable drop in unemployment in Uttarakhand and in the nation. He said that the appointees will boost the capabilities of the Irrigation department, which in turn will lend pace to developmental efforts. Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi, MLAs Khajan Das, Savita Kapoor and others were also present on the occasion.
