Kotdwar, 13 Jan: Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly and MLA from Kotdwar, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, extended her greetings to the people of Uttarakhand on the inauguration of a 100 kVA capacity solar power plant, installed at a cost of ₹54.10 lakh at the Uttarakhand Assembly Complex in Bhararisain (Gairsain), Chamoli district. She described this initiative as a significant achievement towards developing Bhararisain as an environment-friendly, energy self-reliant, and modern legislative city.
The Assembly Speaker stated that the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA), Chamoli, has carried out the supply and installation of a net-metering-based solar power plant at the Assembly complex. The plant will generate approximately 12,000 units of green energy per month, promoting clean energy while also reducing the burden on the electricity grid. She stated that at an average rate of ₹6 per unit, the solar power plant will result in monthly savings of around ₹72,000 for the Assembly, amounting to approximately ₹8.64 lakh annually. The operational life of this solar power plant is more than 25 years, ensuring long-term financial, environmental, and infrastructural benefits for the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly.
Ritu Khanduri Bhushan said that Bhararisain (Gairsain) is not only the summer capital of Uttarakhand, but also a symbol of the state’s democratic consciousness and the soul of the hills. Since assuming the role of Assembly Speaker, she has remained consistently committed to the overall development of the Bhararisain Assembly complex. During her tenure, several historic and visionary initiatives have been undertaken, including the digitisation of the Uttarakhand Assembly, provision of modern hostels for women security personnel, construction of a media hostel for journalists, operation of an international parliamentary studies, research, and training institute, and opening the Assembly complex to the general public.
She said that the objective of all these efforts is to establish Bhararisain as an ideal, transparent, technology-enabled, and people-friendly democratic centre, enabling citizens to feel a direct connection with the Legislative Assembly.
On this occasion, the Speaker expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA), stating that with the support of the state government, Bhararisain is being developed as a model of green energy, sustainable development, and modern infrastructure.
