Dehradun: Despite the slow progress of the monsoon in Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall continues across the state’s mountainous regions. The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and lightning in parts of Tehri, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Uttarkashi, as well as Dehradun, for September 12, 2026. Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall are also expected in several other districts, with similar weather conditions likely to persist across Uttarakhand through September 17. Meanwhile, the plains witnessed hot and humid conditions on Friday, with bright sunshine prevailing throughout the day. In the state capital Dehradun, the maximum temperature climbed to 34.2°C, around five degrees above normal.

However, a spell of heavy rain late in the evening brought relief from the heat and made the weather more pleasant. The minimum temperature during the night remained close to normal. Similar weather conditions were reported across other plain areas of the state, where daytime temperatures remained elevated despite the possibility of evening rainfall. Residents in areas under the yellow alert have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, particularly in vulnerable mountainous and landslide-prone areas.
