Approval granted for MSc programme at Tehri Nursing College

Dehradun, 16 Jan: The state government has approved the conduct of MSc programmes at the Government Nursing College, Surasindhar, Tehri district. From the academic session 2026–27, postgraduate classes will formally commence at the nursing college, and admissions will be offered against 10 approved seats. With the recognition of the postgraduate programme, BSc Nursing students will now have the opportunity to pursue higher education within Tehri itself.
State Medical Health and Medical Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that the state government is continuously working to provide high-quality and advanced medical education in Uttarakhand. For this purpose, along with the establishment of new medical and nursing colleges, special emphasis is being laid on the introduction of postgraduate programmes so that the state can benefit from skilled, specialised, and experienced medical professionals and staff.
As part of this, the government has approved the commencement of PG classes at the Government Nursing College, Tehri. The Minister informed that 10 seats have been sanctioned under the MSc Nursing programme, with two seats each in the following specialisations: Community Health Nursing; Obstetrical and Gynaecological Nursing; Medical Surgical Nursing; Child Health Nursing; and Mental Health Nursing.
From the academic session 2026–27, MSc Nursing courses in these subjects will be conducted in a formal manner.
Dr Rawat said that there had been a long-standing demand for the introduction of MSc courses at the Tehri Nursing College. The state government issued necessary directions to departmental officials for initiating PG programmes at the college, following which all formalities were completed at the departmental level. Subsequently, a committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary recommended the commencement of MSc Nursing classes to the government.
He further stated that, at present, BSc Nursing is being conducted at the Tehri Nursing College with 40 seats, and now PG classes will begin with 10 MSc Nursing seats. The government will ensure that there is no compromise in academic capacity or quality development at the nursing college.
