my uttarakhand news BureauDehradun, 6 Oct: The Army Service Corps White Water Rafting Expedition 2026, aimed at fostering courage, endurance, team spirit and adventure among its personnel, was flagged off from Dehradun today by Major General PK Tiwari, MGASC, Central Command.
The expedition will be conducted from 7 to 11 October 2026, covering an approximately 145 km challenging riverine stretch from Rudraprayag to Rishikesh. The expedition team comprises 2 Officers, 2 JCOs and 12 Other Ranks.
The last Army Service Corps White Water Rafting Expedition was conducted in 2022 in the North Eastern region. Thereafter, due to posting of the participants to various units, no such expedition could be conducted for nearly four years. The initiative to revive this adventure activity was undertaken by the Director General Supplies & Transport (DGST), with the responsibility for the expedition entrusted to Central Command. 514 Army Service Corps Battalion was tasked with conducting the expedition on ground.
Under the guidance of Central Command and UB Area, volunteers were invited during July and August 2026. Following a selection process, ST Directorate selected a 16-member team. The selected personnel underwent an intensive Basic White Water Rafting Course at AANC, Raiwala, from 21 September to 3 October 2026, preparing them for the demanding expedition.
The actual river expedition will commence from Rudraprayag on 7 October. The expedition has been divided into five stages: Rudraprayag to Dhari Devi Temple, Dhari Devi Temple to Srinagar, Srinagar to Devprayag, Devprayag to Kaudiyala, and the final stretch from Kaudiyala to Rishikesh.
The team will navigate the challenging waters of the River Alaknanda before reaching Devprayag, where the Alaknanda meets the Bhagirathi to form the River Ganga. The expedition will thereafter enter the waters of the River Ganga, traversing the challenging rapids en route to Kaudiyala and finally Rishikesh.
The expedition is a testimony to the courage, leadership, discipline, camaraderie and operational spirit of the Army Service Corps. It also aims to promote adventure activities and foster physical and mental resilience among military personnel.
The expedition will culminate at Rishikesh on 11 October 2026.
