Dehradun, 19 Aug: BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today described the rejection of bail pleas of the accused in the Ankita Bhandari murder case by the Uttarakhand High Court as the outcome of solid prosecution and thorough investigation. He also added that the HC decision has also struck a blow to the misinformation campaign run by Congress.
Responding to questions from journalists here today, Chauhan said that ever since the accused were sent to jail on 25 September 2022, they have not been able to come out, which reflects the effectiveness of the prosecution. He asserted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government has stood firmly to ensure justice for Ankita and the harshest punishment under law for the culprits.
Chauhan recalled that within 24 hours of the incident, the accused were sent to jail and a Special Investigation Team was constituted for impartial and detailed inquiry. Action was also taken against them under the Gangster Act. A comprehensive chargesheet of nearly 500 pages was prepared, including statements of around 100 witnesses and crucial evidence, and consistent prosecution ensured that the accused could not secure relief in court. He said the government gave utmost priority to the sentiments of Ankita’s parents and replaced government advocates thrice as per their request. When the family demanded a CBI probe, the Chief Minister respected their feelings and ordered the investigation accordingly. The government also extended financial assistance of Rs 25 lakhs to the family and provided jobs to Ankita’s brother and father as well, fulfilling its commitment to stand with them.
Chauhan criticised Congress for insensitivity throughout the case, alleging that it neither provided facts to investigating agencies nor presented them before the court, instead attempting to exploit the tragedy for political propaganda. He claimed that the people have repeatedly rejected Congress’s agenda and now it should apologise to the public for misleading them in Ankita’s case.
