Dehradun, 9 Feb: BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt said that following the new organisational restructuring, the first meeting of the BJP State Core Committee will be held on 14 February under the leadership of former national president and Union Health Minister JP Nadda. Bhatt shared that the meeting will deliberate on the party activities and the preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections. A detailed roadmap to communicate the achievements of the Central and State governments to the public will also be charted out.
Bhatt said that discussions are already underway on the basis of survey reports and all the leaders have been directed to focus intensively on their respective Assembly constituencies, while making it clear that the sole criterion for candidate selection will be winnability.
Interacting with the media at the party headquarters, Bhatt said that after the formation of the new organisational team, the meeting of the newly constituted State Core Committee will take place on 14 February. Under the guidance of JP Nadda, detailed deliberations will be held on 7 upcoming political challenges and organisational processes. He clarified that the meeting will finalise action plans for both ongoing and future party programmes and that discussions will be also held on how organisational activities can be effectively integrated with the projection of achievements of the Central and State governments among the masses. Keeping in view the election year, proposals to run Vikas Rath programmes at the Assembly constituency level to take the works of the double-engine government to the people will also be discussed. The meeting will also finalise the framework for these programmes and fix responsibilities. Similarly, strategic preparations will be concluded on the issues to be highlighted and the manner in which the party should present its narrative before the public ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Replying to another question, Bhatt categorically stated that winnability alone will be the basis for candidate selection. In view of this, all MLAs and other leaders have been directed to remain politically focused on their own Assembly constituencies. Under this approach, all leaders are expected to ensure that government works and organisational activities gain greater momentum in their respective areas so that the prospects of victory become stronger. He said that out of four surveys, including two conducted at the state level and two at the national level, the report of one survey is currently available, which indicates that the party is in a position to win more seats than before. Based on other survey reports as well, feedback is being shared with all public representatives and office-bearers, along with expectations of improvement. Overall, he reiterated, the basis of candidate selection will strictly be the likelihood of victory.
Responding to a question on the opposition’s Mahapanchayat, Bhatt described it as a complete flop in terms of both issues and numbers. He said it was unfortunate that politics was being played over matters on which the government had already acted in accordance with the sentiments of the affected family. He said the people of the state witnessed how political party flags dominated the scene under the guise of a social movement.
