PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made four important announcements to empower block Panchayats and resolve the problems of their members. Attending the Uttarakhand Pramukh Sangathan meet at the CM residence here on Sunday, Dhami said that action will be taken to restart the block Panchayat fund and steps will also be taken to increase the honorarium and allowances of the block Panchayat representatives. Block Pramukhs will also be included in the block-level committee of the National Rural Livelihood Mission while the feedback of the Gram Panchayat concerned will also be taken for including rural areas into urban areas, he said. The CM said that block Pramukhs and Panchayat representatives are an important bridge between the government and the public. They understand the local problems and requirements better while also playing an important role in the development of roads, drinking water supply, health facilities, education and other basic facilities. Stating that the problems, suggestions and demands of the public representatives are known to the government, he said that positive decisions will be taken to address these after deliberations with the departments concerned. Dhami said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State government is working to ensure that the benefit of development schemes reaches the last eligible person in society. He exhorted the public representatives to maintain consistent coordination with the administration to ensure that the benefit of government schemes reaches the eligible persons and that the grievances are resolved. The collective efforts of the government, administration and public representatives can make public services more effective, he added. The CM further said that under PM Modi’s leadership, various important steps have been taken to further empower Panchayats. The resources, basic facilities and digital services for Panchayats have been expanded. Taking optical fibre connectivity to Gram Panchayats and construction of Panchayat Bhawans has boosted the pace of rural development. The State government is also working to make the local bodies economically stronger. According to the recommendations of the sixth State Finance Commission, the share of local bodies in revenue is proposed to be raised from 10.5 per cent to 12.5 per cent. A provision of Rs 721 crore has been made for this purpose in the supplementary budget. This will facilitate additional resources for rural and urban local bodies, the CM said. Uttarakhand Pramukh Sangathan president Rajiv Kandari and other public representatives were also present on the occasion.
