Dehradun, 15 May: The process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand is due to begin on 29 May under the directions of the Election Commission of India. In this context, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BVRC Purushottam held a meeting with representatives of recognised national political parties at the Secretariat here today. During the meeting, he sought their cooperation in ensuring that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter is included in the rolls.
He explained that the revision will be conducted with 1 July 2026 as the qualifying date. Printing of enumeration forms and training of staff will take place between 29 May and 7 June, followed by door-to-door distribution and collection of forms by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from 8 June to 7 July. The draft roll will be published on 14 July, with claims and objections invited until 13 August. Notices will be issued and disposed of between 10 July and 11 September, and the final electoral roll will be published on 15 September.
The CEO also urged the political parties to appoint one hundred per cent Booth Level Agents (BLAs) within the next two weeks to strengthen the process. He noted that against 11,733 polling booths in the state, parties have already deployed around 22,000 agents. He also elaborated on the “Book a Call with BLO” initiative to facilitate voter interaction.
Among those present during the meeting were Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Kishan Singh Negi and representatives from BJP, Congress, BSP and CPI (M). The CEO stressed that the success of the revision depends on active cooperation from political parties, officials and citizens, and stressed that the integrity of the electoral rolls is fundamental to free and fair elections.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission has been emphasising clean and error-free rolls across the country, particularly in states like Uttarakhand where migration and demographic changes often affect voter lists. Recent reports in regional media have highlighted concerns about duplicate entries and missing names in hill districts, making the upcoming revision crucial for restoring confidence among voters. The Commission has also been pushing for greater use of technology, including mobile applications and online verification, to ensure transparency and accessibility in the enrolment process.
