PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun To ensure safe and smooth Char Dham Yatra, the Transport department has issued 3,845 green cards from March 29 to April 15. The department had recently launched the ‘Green Card System’ for commercial passenger vehicles. Under this system, vehicles participating in the Char Dham Yatra must be technically fit and safe. The system verifies vehicle fitness and provides quick access to vehicle information in case of an emergency. The officials informed that as per figures, until April 15, a total of 3,845 green cards have been issued. Of them, the highest number—1,248—were issued at the Haridwar ARTO office, while Rishikesh ARTO issued 1,173 followed by Dehradun RTO (475 green cards), Tehri ARTO (six green cards), Uttarkashi ARTO (seven green cards), Karnprayag ARTO (116 green cards), Pauri RTO (30 green cards), Rudraprayag ARTO (296 green cards), Kotdwar ARTO (157 green cards), Vikasnagar ARTO (31 green cards) and Roorkee ARTO (277 green cards). Providing further breakups, the officials said that out of 1428 green cards issued by Haridwar ARTO, 685 were for taxis, 284 for mini buses, 114 for buses and 165 for maxis. In Rishikesh ARTO, 596 green cards were issued for taxis, 260 for buses, 196 for maxis and 121 for mini buses. Other districts have also contributed to the issuance of green cards in similar categories. Notably, the officials had earlier informed about the establishment of a Green Card Centre in the Dehradun Division, which includes offices in Haridwar, Roorkee (Narsan Checkpost starting April 16), Asharodi (Dehradun), Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Tehri, Uttarkashi and other state offices. Vehicle owners can apply for a green card online by visiting the Transport department’s official website, www.greencard.uk.gov.in, and paying the required fee. Following this, a green card will be issued after a technical inspection of the vehicle at the nearest transport office.
