PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the policymakers to focus on research, innovation and effective implementation while taking into account Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions, challenges and future needs. He said that the finding of research and studies should be used to make State policies and plans more effective. Dhami gave the directive while chairing the meeting of the governing body of the Uttarakhand State Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance at the State secretariat on Thursday. In the meeting, the CM directed that case studies based on the State’s achievements and notable work in various fields should be prepared. He called for special attention to be paid to the training and capacity building of officials at the district level. Dhami said that for the overall development of the State, long-term plans should be developed, taking into account the State’s unique circumstances and potential. Data and research-based approaches should be prioritised in policymaking and future action plans, he said. It was decided in the meeting that 10 postgraduate students from the State’s leading universities will be provided with scholarships for their capstone projects. In the meeting, the Governing body members offered several important suggestions for the State’s overall and long-term development. They emphasized the need to promote high-value, low-volume products in the State and to focus specifically on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Suggestions on promoting home tourism in mountainous regions were also given. Members recommended conducting detailed research and studies on eight key reform areas related to the State’s future development, so that better strategies could be developed for future plans and programmes. The meeting also discussed the State’s future development strategy towards a developed Uttarakhand 2047. Special emphasis was placed on areas such as economic development and employment, human resources and welfare, forests, biodiversity and climate adaptation, infrastructure development, local self-government and regional development and technology-based good governance. In the meeting, the CM also released the book ‘Uttarakhand at 25: A Himalayan State with Infinite Possibilities’. Senior officers of State administration, MLAs, VCs, economists and other policy makers attended the meeting.
