PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the countdown run for the ‘Niti Extreme Ultra Run- 2026’ at his residence on Saturday. In the programme, he lit the torch of the competition and also unveiled the mascot of the event Kyalu – the snow leopard. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the Niti Extreme Ultra Run-2026 is not just an event but is a campaign to infuse new energy, new opportunities and new confidence in the border areas of the State. He said that the enthusiasm, energy and confidence exhibited by the youngsters in this event demonstrate that the youth of the State are filled with courage, determination and the passion to do something big for the country. Terming the ultra run as not only a test of physical ability but also a means of strengthening willpower, patience and self-confidence. He added that running in a difficult and challenging terrain like the Niti Valley requires high spirits, unwavering faith like the Himalayas and the courage to accept challenges. He described the participants as brand ambassadors of adventure, tourism and the State. He said the Niti Extreme Ultra Run will become a symbol of the power and potential of the new Uttarakhand. Dhami added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision about the border villages being the first and not the last villages in the country is being realized through this event. He expressed confidence that the event will provide new impetus to tourism, employment, homestays, local products and entrepreneurship in border areas. The CM said that this event, which will be on May 31 in Niti Valley, will write a golden chapter in the history of sports and adventure tourism in Uttarakhand. He said that more than 900 participants from 27 states and two other countries have registered for this event, which shows the interest it is generating in the youth. He said that under the leadership of PM Modi, sports and fitness are being made a mass movement in the country through campaigns like the Fit India Movement, Khelo India and the National Games. He added that the State government is committed to make the State one of the leading adventure sports and sports tourism destination. Secretary Tourism Dhiraj Garbyal, additional chief executive officer, Tourism Development Council Narendra Bhandari and others took part in the programme.
