
Jiten Thakur awarded Sahitya Bhushan Samman

Dehradun, 30 Mar: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami felicitated several distinguished authors at the Uttarakhand Sahitya Gaurav Samman Samaroh–2025 organised by the Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan at his official residence here today. The state’s highest literary honour, the Uttarakhand Sahitya Bhushan Samman was conferred on Jiten Thakur, recognised as a source of inspiration not only for Uttarakhand but for the wider Hindi literary world. Thakur is among the most prominent writers in Hindi and has been living in Dehradun for the past several decades.
In addition to Thakur, writers such as poet Buddhinath Mishra, Shyam Singh Kutoala, Pritam Singh, Kesar Singh Rai and Atae Sabir Afzal Manglori were awarded the ‘Uttarakhand Deerghkalin Utkrisht Sahitya Srijan Puraskar’. The CM also honoured eminent writers across various genres and winners of the Yuva Kalamkar Pratiyogita.
Under the Sahitya Nari Vandan Samman, Diva Bhatt was recognised, while Dinesh Chamola received the award for outstanding children’s literature. The Uttarakhand Maulik Rachna Puraskar was presented to Bhupendra Bisht, Sudha Jugran and senior journalist Sheeshpal Gusain. Tara Pathak, Hemant Singh Bisht and Gajendra Nautiyal were honoured for their contributions to Kumaoni and Garhwali literature.
On this occasion, CM Dhami also addressed the winners as well as the gathering where he expressed pride at the opportunity to honour the state’s great literary figures. He emphasised that the writers enrich and preserve the cultural and literary heritage of Uttarakhand and they pass this heritage on to the future generations. He described the ceremony as a symbol of the state’s literary tradition, creative consciousness and respect for its authors.
Dhami also recalled how the sacred land of Uttarakhand, blessed with the Himalayas, the Ganga and natural beauty, has inspired countless poets and writers, including Sumitranandan Pant, Gaura Pant ‘Shivani’, Mohan Upreti and Shailesh Matiyani.
The CM further emphasised that the literature is the mirror of society and that the writers are not merely creators of words but guides and motivators. He noted their significant role in both the freedom movement and the creation of Uttarakhand state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting literature and culture, highlighting grants for publication and recognition through awards.
On this occasion, Dhami also announced the establishment of two modern Sahitya Grams in the state to provide contemporary facilities for writers and to develop Uttarakhand as a centre of literary tourism. He asserted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is reconnecting with its cultural roots and restoring literary heritage, inspiring the state government to consolidate and safeguard Uttarakhand’s scattered literary treasures.
The CM on this occasion urged the writers to continue spreading Uttarakhand’s cultural and spiritual identity across India and abroad through their works, guiding society with their creativity. Among those present on the occasion were Languages Minister Subodh Uniyal and Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, MLA Savita Kapoor, along with a large gathering of scholars, writers, journalists and literature enthusiasts.
