PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun  Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday launched the second phase of the Mukhyamantri Ekal Mahila Swarozgar Yojana, by transferring Rs 2.76 crore to the bank accounts of 488 single women beneficiaries. He disbursed Rs 1.554 crore as the first instalment to 212 new women beneficiaries under the second phase of the scheme, while also providing about Rs 1.20 crore as the second instalment to 276 women beneficiaries from the first phase. In the first phase of the said scheme assistance of Rs 3. 45 crore was provided to 484 women beneficiaries on February 10, 2026. Addressing the programme, the CM stated that the objective of the scheme is to economically empower single, destitute, widowed, abandoned and divorced women, as well as acid attack victims, women affected by other criminal incidents and transgender women through self-employment. Under the initiative, projects costing up to a maximum of Rs two lakh are approved for women to establish self-employment in their local area, with the State government providing a subsidy of up to 75 per cent. He emphasised that the government’s goal is not only to provide financial assistance but also to give women the opportunity to become self-sufficient with dignity. Dhami added that the State government, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, is continuously working towards the comprehensive development and economic self-reliance of women. He noted that women are being connected to self-employment and entrepreneurship through initiatives. The state government is also providing incubation facilities to over 15,000 women entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and Lakhpati Didis. The “House of Himalayas” brand aims to provide national and international markets for the state’s local products. “Currently, about 500,000 women in the state are engaged in economic activities through more than 70,000 self-help groups. Over 7,000 village organizations and more than 500 cluster organizations are empowering women’s collective leadership. Additionally, over 265,000 women are setting new examples of self-reliance by becoming “Lakhpati Didis,” Dhami said. Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya stated that the scheme is fostering self-reliance, respect, and self-confidence in the lives of single women in the state. She expressed that the government aims to connect women with self-employment, viewing them not merely as beneficiaries but as partners in development.
