PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said the State government is committed to make women empowered and self-reliant. He said that special attention is being paid on increasing opportunities for women and their economic empowerment. The CM was addressing a programme organised at his residence to mark the festival of Rakshabandhan. The CM said women are being provided 30 per cent horizontal reservation in State government services. He averred that in sync with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi more than 3.09 lakh women in the State have become Lakhpati Didis. He added that the women associated with self-help groups are strengthening their livelihoods through local products, agriculture, handicrafts and various self-employment activities and are also making significant contributions to the State’s economy. The CM said that new self-employment and livelihood opportunities are being provided to women through various schemes, including the Mukhyamantri Shashakt Behana Yojna and others. The State government is also making efforts to provide better markets for local products produced by women self-help groups and increase their incomes. Dhami said that the women of Uttarakhand have played a crucial role from the formation of the state to its development. “Today, women are demonstrating their potential in every field, including education, health, administration, agriculture, self-employment, entrepreneurship and the social sector. Only with the active participation of the women can the commitment for a strong Uttarakhand and a developed India be realized,’’ he said. In the programme women from different parts of the State greeted the CM and tied Rakhi on his wrist. Expressing his gratitude the CM said that Raksha Bandhan is a sacred festival symbolizing the love, trust, and security of a brother and sister. CM’s wife Geeta Dhami, MLAs Savita Kapoor and Asha Nautiyal, president of BJP Mahila Morcha Ruchi Bhatt and others attended the programme.
