Daylight murder in Dehradun exposes collapse of law & order: Ganesh Godiyal

Dehradun, 2 Feb: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Ganesh Godiyal today launched a sharp attack on the state government, alleging that the incident of a young woman being brutally murdered in broad daylight in the capital city of Dehradun has conclusively exposed the complete collapse of law and order in the state. Godiyal claimed that this gruesome murder reflects the growing audacity of criminals.
Godiyal said that the manner in which a young woman’s throat was slit in the main market area of Dehradun clearly lays bare the fragile state of law and order in Uttarakhand. He asserted that the incident has proved beyond doubt that the state’s policing system has failed and that criminals are operating without fear of the law.
He further stated that the daylight murder in a crowded locality like Machhi Bazaar has unmasked what he described as the “jungle raj” under the BJP government. Godiyal pointed out that the place where the crime was committed is located just a short distance from the city’s main Kotwali and that the area remains crowded round the clock. Despite this, he alleged, the police have shown alarming insensitivity towards the safety and security of the general public.
The state Congress president said that whether it is the issue of women’s safety or the protection of life and property of common citizens, the state police have failed on all fronts. Criminals, he alleged, are committing crimes and escaping with impunity, while the police are merely attempting to mislead the public. He added that even in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, which took place earlier, the police have so far failed to fully resolve the case and reveal the alleged VIP involvement, thereby strengthening the perception that criminals are being protected at some level.
Godiyal said the latest incident in the state capital once again highlights the urgent need for accountability and effective policing. He warned that in case immediate and concrete steps are not taken to restore public confidence, such incidents will continue to recur, further endangering public safety.
