Several Police officials suspended in cases of negligence

Dehradun, 3 Feb: Police A high-level review meeting on crime and law and order was held at the auditorium of Sardar Patel Bhawan under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth. The meeting was attended by senior officers of Police Headquarters, range in-charges of Garhwal and Kumaon, senior superintendents of police of all districts, and senior officers of the STF. A comprehensive review of the prevailing crime scenario, law and order situation, progress of investigations and disposal of public grievances was undertaken during the meeting, following which detailed instructions were issued by the DGP.
The DGP took serious note of negligence in handling serious criminal incidents and ordered strict action against erring police personnel. In connection with the recent incident of a woman being shot dead in Rishikesh of Dehradun district, the In-charge of AIIMS Police Outpost, Sub Inspector Sahil Vashisht, was suspended with immediate effect for negligence. Similarly, in the heinous murder case of a young woman under Kotwali Nagar, Dehradun, Sub Inspector Pradyumn Negi, In-charge of Khudbura Police Outpost, was also suspended after prima facie negligence was found. Keeping in view the sensitivity of crimes against women, investigation of both the cases has been entrusted to SP Crime Vishakha Ashok Bhadane. Directions were issued by Seith to submit a detailed report to Police Headquarters within seven days regarding any laxity on the part of other personnel.
In another case relating to clashes and firing between two groups during Ravidas Jayanti celebrations in the Bhagwanpur police station area of Haridwar district, serious negligence was found, following which Sub Inspector Surat Sharma, In-charge of Chudiyala Police Outpost, was suspended with immediate effect. The entire matter has been handed over to Superintendent of Police Crime, Haridwar Jitendra Mehra, with instructions to submit a detailed report within seven days on the role of other police personnel involved.
Referring to the Sukwant Singh suicide case in Udham Singh Nagar district and the allegations against the police officials in land-related matters, the DGP issued clear directions that all land fraud cases would mandatorily be subjected to a time-bound and transparent inquiry at the level of Circle Officer (CO). The CO will clearly determine and record whether the matter is of a civil or criminal nature and only thereafter further legal action will be initiated. All pending land-related cases will be continuously monitored at the level of Police Headquarters.
Reiterating the zero-tolerance policy against corruption as laid down by the Chief Minister, the DGP directed the Vigilance Department to identify police personnel involved in corrupt practices and to expedite strict action against them.
