PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the ‘Run for Kargil Heroes’ marathon organised at Shaurya Sthal, Cheedbagh in Garhi Cantt on Saturday to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated on July 26 . On this occasion, the CM paid floral tributes to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Shaurya Sthal. In a message on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the CM said that the day symbolizes the Indian Army’s courage, valour, bravery and unwavering dedication to the nation. He said that in 1999, brave Indian soldiers displayed unparalleled valour under difficult circumstances, defending the motherland and demonstrating the Indian Army’s indomitable courage to the world. He said that the country will always be indebted to the sacrifices of its brave soldiers and martyrs. Dhami said that Uttarakhand is known as the land of heroes. Many brave soldiers from the State have brought glory to the nation with their unparalleled courage and supreme sacrifice in various military operations. He said that during the Kargil War, a large number of brave sons of Uttarakhand played a leading role and sacrificed their lives to protect the nation. The country will always be indebted to the sacrifices of its brave soldiers and martyrs. The CM averred that the State government is continuously working for the welfare of soldiers, ex-servicemen and their dependents and is committed to protecting their honour and interests. He called upon the youth to draw inspiration from the ideals of the martyrs and actively contribute to nation-building and faithfully discharge their responsibilities towards the unity, integrity and security of the country. Soldier Welfare minister Ganesh Joshi, a large number of ex-servicemen, youth, women and others were also present on the occasion.
