PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami handed over appointment letters to 112 newly selected transport constables at a ceremony held at the Chief Sevak Sadan in the CM residence on Thursday. Along with this, he flagged off two awareness vehicles to promote road safety along the Char Dham Yatra route. Congratulating the newly appointed candidates, Dhami praised their hard work, discipline and determination. He also acknowledged the support and sacrifices of their families in their success. Stressing the importance of their new roles, he said the position of transport constable is not just a government job but a social responsibility. He emphasised their role in ensuring smooth passenger services, monitoring road safety, vehicle registration and pollution control. The CM urged the new recruits to uphold dedication and discipline at their workplaces while maintaining communication and cooperation with the public. He said that the system should function in an auto mode to ensure citizens are not unnecessarily burdened. Reaffirming the State government’s commitment to eliminating corruption, he highlighted the active functioning of the toll-free helpline 1064 for corruption complaints. He said the Transport department is dedicated to providing safe and efficient services across the state. However, he acknowledged the rising number of road accidents due to the increase in vehicles. He stated that to address this, the State introduced the New Uttarakhand Road Safety Policy 2025 in February, aiming to reduce road accident fatalities by 50 per cent by 2030 through clearly defined responsibilities across departments. He said his government has restored young people’s trust in the system. He credited the strict anti-cheating law implemented by the State for ensuring fair examinations and recruitments. Over the past three years, more than 23,000 youths have secured government jobs under this transparent system, he said. He also criticised previous governments for nepotism and corruption in job recruitment, stating that his administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. In the past three years, over 200 corrupt officials have been sent to jail and this campaign will continue with full force, he added.
