PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The Additional Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) of Dehradun and district surveillance officer, Dr CS Rawat advised against panic and urged individuals to adopt preventive measures against the new wave of COVID-19. He said this in a discussion about the Health department’s preparations and advice on necessary precautions for this resurgence. It is important to note that a new wave of COVID-19, driven by Omicron sub-variants, is impacting various regions in Asia, including India. Currently, India has 257 active cases, primarily mild in nature. Kerala has reported the highest number of cases at 69, followed by Maharashtra with 44 and Tamil Nadu with 34. Given the increase in COVID-19 cases across India, some residents of Dehradun have begun to show signs of concern. In response to this situation, Dr Rawat stated that to date, there have been no confirmed cases of the new wave of COVID-19 in the Dehradun district. Further, the Health department has not issued any directives regarding this matter, as they have not received guidelines from either the state health department or the central government concerning this new COVID-19 variant. He said that this variant is believed to be comparable to normal influenza and is not considered more dangerous. Therefore, he urged the public not to panic and to take necessary precautions, such as maintaining distance, wearing masks and practicing good hygiene. Dr Rawat also said that if any cases do arise in the future within the Dehradun district, the Health department will ensure that timely measures and guidance are provided to the relevant hospitals. Additionally, the medical superintendent of Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, Dr VS Chauhan, stated that there is no reason for concern, as there have been no reported cases of the new COVID wave among residents. He emphasised that while no cases have been confirmed, it is important for individuals to adhere to COVID-19 safety precautions. Wearing masks and maintaining social distancing are critical measures to mitigate this COVID wave. Dr Chauhan advised that anyone experiencing symptoms such as a cold or cough should consult a doctor promptly, as medical professionals can assess their symptoms and recommend appropriate testing in a timely manner.
