PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Haridwar Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government is working for the development of Haridwar as a world-class spiritual and cultural city. He was addressing a programme after performing the Bhoomipujan and laying the foundation stone of four major infrastructure projects under the Haridwar-Rishikesh Ganga Corridor project on Tuesday. The CM performed Bhoomipujan of Prashshanik Marg Corridor Development project. He also laid the foundation stone for the restoration work of Har Ki Paudi and Subhash Ghat, infrastructure development in the northern area of Har Ki Paudi and redevelopment of the Rodi Belwala area of Haridwar. These projects will be implemented through the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB). Addressing the programme, the CM said that the State government believes not merely in laying foundation stones, but in a work culture of completing projects in a timely, quality-oriented and transparent manner. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is moving rapidly towards the preservation, promotion and revival of its cultural heritage. In this regard, the Uttarakhand government is working on ambitious projects such as the Haridwar-Rishikesh Ganga Corridor, Kedarkhand and Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission, the Sharda corridor, Goljju Corridor and the Vivekananda Corridor. “The objective of these projects is not only to beautify the temples, but also to provide modern facilities to devotees and create new employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth,’’ he said. Dhami said that Haridwar is a centre of faith for millions of people, a vibrant symbol of Indian culture, and the spiritual gateway to Sanatan civilization. He said that the Kumbh Mela in 2027 will be a grand festival of India’s cultural unity and spiritual consciousness. “The State government is working on a war footing to make it the most divine, grand, safe and well-organized Kumbh Mela in history. The four projects launched today are also an important part of these extensive preparations,” he said. The CM said that Haridwar is being developed into one of the country’s leading cities not only in terms of faith but also in the fields of education, health, tourism and modern infrastructure. He said that the State government has started the work of developing a permanent Kanwad trekking route, so that safe, easy and better facilities can be provided to the devotees. The CM said that the State government is working to preserve Uttarakhand’s cultural identity. He said that encroachments on more than 12,000 acres of government land have been removed. Cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj said that the development of world-class infrastructure in the holy city of Haridwar will not only provide better facilities to the devotees but will also have long-term benefits for the tourism and local economy of the entire state. Cabinet ministers Madan Kaushik, Pradeep Batra and Ram Singh Kaida also expressed their views at the event. The managing director, UIIDB and principal secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, while providing information on the projects, stated that special efforts are being made to complete all projects before the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
