PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met the Union Jal Shakti minister CR Patil in New Delhi on Monday and discussed various issues concerning the State. In the meeting, the two leaders discussed in detail the preparations for the Kumbh to be held in Haridwar in the year 2027 and the projects related to Namami Gange. The CM requested the Union minister that early approval of projects worth Rs 408.82 crore under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) should be given to ensure a successful, well-organized and environmentally sustainable Kumbh- 2027 in Haridwar. He said that this mega event to be held from January to April 2027, is expected to attract millions of devotees from India and abroad. The CM said that maintaining the purity, cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga is a top priority of the government in view of the Kumbh-2027. In the meeting, the CM requested for approval of proposals worth Rs 253 crore for flood protection works, release of additional funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission and capacity expansion of the Iqbalpur Canal System, Kankhal and Jagjitpur Canals in the State.  The CM told the Union minister that capacity expansion of these canal systems would provide 665 Cusecs of water for irrigation of uncultivated land, benefiting the Bhagwanpur and Laksar areas of Haridwar district. The project is expected to provide irrigation facilities to approximately 13,000 hectares of land and will also solve the drinking water problem in the area, he averred.  The CM said that with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the cooperation of the Union government, Haridwar Kumbh- 2027 will be divine, grand and historical and the goal of Ganga conservation will be further strengthened.
