Dehradun, 6 Feb: A special exposure visit was organised for the women inmates of Nari Niketan and the girls of Balika Niketan under the guidance and compassionate initiative of District Magistrate Savin Bansal. This is part of the continuous steps being taken to strengthen the self-respect, self-reliance and social integration of inmates and girls residing at the Government Women Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre (Nari Niketan) and Balika Niketan in Dehradun.
The objective of the initiative was not limited to recreation or sightseeing, but to meaningfully connect the inmates and girls with the social environment so as to reinforce their self-confidence, sense of belonging and positive thinking. Women residing at Nari Niketan were taken to Crossroads Mall, where they watched the much-discussed patriotic film ‘Border-2’. Following the screening, they were hosted for lunch in a warm and caring atmosphere at a local restaurant and were also given an exposure visit to various establishments within the mall. The happiness, confidence and sense of inclusion visible on their faces reflected their renewed enthusiasm to walk forward alongside society. A sense of new hope, fresh beginnings and resolve for a better future was clearly evident in their thoughts and expressions.
Similarly, the girls from Balika Niketan were taken on an educational and historical exposure visit to Silver City, Pacific Mall and the Rashtrapati Niketan located on Rajpur Road. At Silver City Mall, the girls were shown a patriotic film, during which arrangements for refreshments, safety and supervision were also ensured throughout the visit. Through this exposure programme, the girls not only enjoyed educational, cultural and social activities but also gained practical knowledge and broader life experiences.
DM Savin Bansal noted that the purpose of such programmes is not merely entertainment, but to provide helpless women and orphaned girls living in shelter homes with practical exposure to the social, educational and cultural environments. He felt that such initiatives help them connect with the mainstream of society with dignity and self-respect, enabling them to shape their future with a positive outlook. He added that when these women and girls receive respect, affection and a normal social environment, their rehabilitation becomes more effective, sustainable and meaningful. He also assured that the district administration will continue to undertake similar sensitive, humane and inspiring initiatives in the future with the same commitment.
The exposure visit organised by the district administration not only brought smiles to the faces of the inmates and girls, but also gave new direction, renewed confidence and fresh wings to their dreams. Through the efforts of the DM, this initiative has emerged as a unique and inspiring example of mental, social and emotional empowerment for the women inmates of Nari Niketan and the girls of Balika Niketan. The initiative stands as a strong and living effort to rebuild shattered trust, support fragmented lives and inspire the courage to begin anew.
During the entire programme, District Probation Officer Meena Bisht, Nari Niketan Superintendent Sonal Rana and other staff members of the centre were present and ensured that the programme was conducted in a cordial, safe and successful manner.
