Ex-Servicemen seek relief from serving in remote areas on re-employment  | my uttarakhand news

Dehradun, 11 Jan: A delegation of ex–servicemen met Sainik Kalyan Minister Ganesh Joshi at his camp office here today and submitted a memorandum seeking exemption from posting in remote areas under the state’s transfer policy. The delegation apprised the minister of the difficulties faced by ex–servicemen who, after years of military service in some of the most inaccessible and challenging regions of the country, join the state government on re–employment and are again posted in remote areas for prolonged periods.
Members of the delegation, who had come from Haldwani, said that soldiers spend a major part of their military career serving in extremely difficult terrain and hostile conditions and retire after completing long years of service. However, when they subsequently enter government service in the state on re–employment, they are once again required to serve for 15 to 20 years in similarly inaccessible areas, without being given an opportunity to serve in more accessible or convenient locations at any stage of their in-service years. They stated that this continuous posting in remote areas causes hardship not only to the ex–servicemen themselves but also to their families. In view of this they demand a sympathetic review of the existing policy.
In view of these circumstances, the delegation demanded suitable amendments to the Transfer Act, 2017 to provide relief and exemption in transfer postings to serving ex–servicemen across the state. Joshi heard the members of delegation patiently and assured them that the government would consider the issue with due sensitivity and seriousness. He said that necessary action would be initiated at the earliest to address the concerns raised by the ex–servicemen.
Those present during the meeting included Balwant Singh Gaira, Shamsher Singh, Dinesh Chandra, Surendra Singh Bhandari, Dipendra Chandra, Dalip Singh Rawat, Govind Singh and others.
