Gov inaugurates free Disability Assistance Camp in Doon

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Dehradun, 11 Dec: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) today inaugurated a two-day free disability assistance camp organised by the Harshal Foundation at Gandhi Road, here.
He interacted with persons with disabilities and senior citizen beneficiaries and reviewed the facilities being provided. In the presence of the Governor, several beneficiaries received artificial limbs and other assistive devices.
On this occasion, the Governor said that the camp, being conducted by the Harshal Foundation for many years, is an excellent example of humanitarian sensitivity, compassion, and social responsibility. He added that this is a true demonstration of service to humanity. The Governor noted that the foundation has benefited more than ten thousand persons with disabilities so far, which is highly commendable.
The Governor said that persons with disabilities do not need just sympathy, but also opportunities and respect. With proper support, modern technology, and a positive environment, they can excel in every field. Referring to the recent achievements of India’s visually impaired women’s cricket team, winners of the T-20 World Cup, and various para-athletes, he said these examples prove that persons with disabilities are an inspiration to society. He also said that modern technology and the use of AI can further simplify and improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
The two-day camp is distributing various assistive devices free of cost, including artificial limbs, callipers, crutches, wheelchairs, tricycles, walkers, sticks, hearing aids, and special spectacles. Along with this, health check-ups, physiotherapy, medical consultations, diagnostic tests, and expert advice are also being provided. Programmes related to skill development and employment assistance for persons with disabilities have also been arranged.
The Governor appreciated the institutions supporting the camp, the medical team, volunteers, and the officers of the district administration, health, and social welfare departments.
Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, who was present at the event, also praised the work of the foundation and its partner organisations. He said that persons with disabilities are not behind anyone and are proving themselves capable through their hard work and skills. He added that such camps generate positive energy and inspiration in society.
The event was attended by Foundation President Rama Goyal, Secretary Ghanshyam Agarwal, Rajesh Tandon, Brigadier KG Behl, Dr S Farooq, and others.
