Governor praises trout farming initiative to boost rural economy

Dehradun, 3 Feb: Fishing farmer Mohan Singh Bisht, today called on Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh. During the meeting, the Governor praised Bisht for taking initiative of trout fish farming and noted that this would boost rural economy in the hills. It may be recalled that Mohan Singh Bisht is a fisheries entrepreneur from Village Lwani, Development Block Dewal, District Chamoli.
Bisht has been engaged in trout fish farming in Development Block Dewal since 2017. Through his initiative, he is providing self-employment opportunities to the local residents, particularly the youth. He informed the Governor that there is strong market demand for trout and that the fish produced by him is being supplied to the ITBP and SSB. He added that fish farming has been providing him with a good income and sought support to establish integrated farming in his village.
Appreciating his efforts, the Governor observed that trout fish farming in Uttarakhand is an effective way to strengthen the rural economy and connect young people with self-employment opportunities. He emphasised the importance of motivating more youth to take up this sector and to fully utilise the benefits of government schemes. He noted that such startups and self-employment initiatives contribute significantly to increasing incomes in rural areas.
Describing Bisht’s work as an exemplary initiative for the state, the Governor encouraged him to continue his efforts in the future. He said that innovative thinking and entrepreneurship such as this play a crucial role in promoting economic prosperity and self-reliance in rural Uttarakhand.
