PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Haridwar The Uttarakhand State Cabinet held a meeting in Haridwar on Monday—only the third time the city has hosted the Cabinet since the state was carved out of Uttar Pradesh nearly 26 years ago. The session is part of the Pushkar Singh Dhami government’s drive to bring Cabinet meetings to every district. Following a recent meeting in Banbasa, this latest session aligns with the city’s massive preparations for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh 2027. The government sources said that Dhami government’s initiative is meant to rotate Cabinet sessions across all districts, taking the top-level administrative decision-making directly to regional communities rather than keeping it limited to the provisional capital city of Dehradun. Earlier, in 2010, during the tenure of the then chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, such a meeting was held here to take stock of the ongoing preparations for the Maha Kumbh and again in 2016, during the tenure of Harish Rawat as the CM, the same was held to review preparations for the Ardh Kumbh. The issues like convenience of devotees, fair management, infrastructure, sanitation and security and traffic arrangements among others were discussed threadbare and the necessary directions were given to facilitate smooth and convenient religious congregations during which millions of people gather in the holy city.
