Dehradun, 30 Mar: Advocate Akhilesh Singh Rawat has recently been appointed as one of the youngest Deputy Advocate Generals representing the State of Uttarakhand before the Supreme Court of India. This development is being viewed as a significant recognition of his sustained legal work and professional trajectory. Hailing originally from the Jaunsar Bawar region of Dehradun, Rawat received his early education at St Joseph’s Academy (SJA) before moving to the national capital to pursue higher studies, where he graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce under the University of Delhi and served as Vice President of the students’ union affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He subsequently completed his LLB from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, and enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi. Rawat is perhaps the youngest lawyer to serve on such a senior position.
Speaking to my uttarakhand news, Rawat said that it is a moment of pride and honour for him to serve the state as its deputy advocate general. He said that he would like to assure the people that he would work with utmost dedication and in the best interest of the state while representing the state government in the Supreme Court.
It may be reminded that during his formative years in Delhi University, Rawat remained actively engaged in student politics and organisational activities. As Delhi State Convenor of the World Organization of Students and Youth, he was involved in organising several international conferences in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and participated in initiatives linked to the India-Africa Forum Summit, contributing to youth engagement in diplomatic and policy discussions. He is also the founder of the Jaunsar Bawar Student Association, Delhi, an initiative through which he has mentored and supported numerous students from Uttarakhand in navigating academic and professional opportunities in the capital.
Rawat’s professional journey has also included participation in several institutional roles. He served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Forest Management in Bhopal, where he was among the youngest appointees and chaired the Faculty Grievance Committee. In addition, he was associated with the Telecom Advisory Committee for Uttarakhand under the Ministry of Communications, contributing to policy discussions in the communications sector.
Over the past decade, he has developed a diverse legal practice, regularly appearing before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, various district courts and specialised tribunals including the National Company Law Tribunal, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, National Green Tribunal, MP/MLA Court and the PMLA Appellate Tribunal. His areas of work span white-collar crime, including matters involving the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, as well as criminal, environmental, matrimonial and commercial disputes.
Earlier in his career, Rawat had worked as a legal consultant with Paytm and continues to advise organisations such as News Corp (India).
