Dehradun, 31 Mar: Taking a stern view of the latest law & order incident in the city and of other recent incidents, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed strong displeasure. He today issued strict directions to the Police and the administration to ensure that there is no compromise on public safety anywhere in the state. Emphasising that maintenance of law & order remains the government’s top priority, the CM made it clear that any negligence in duty will invite immediate and stringent action.
At the same time, acting on the Chief Minister’s directions, Soban Singh, deputy excise inspector, Area-3 Mussoorie in district Dehradun, and Ashok Kumar, police officer in-charge of Kuthal Gate Police Chowki, have been placed under suspension with immediate effect. The action is described by the government as a clear message from the government that lapses in enforcement will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Dhami today directed the officials across the state to launch an intensive checking drive with immediate effect and to take strict action against unruly and anti-social elements. He specifically called for firm measures to curb incidents of road rage, firing and illegal late-night activities, stating that such behaviour would not be allowed to disturb public order.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to the safety and security of citizens, the CM instructed the police and administrative machinery to function with utmost vigilance and firmness. He stressed that the officers and employees found negligent in discharging their duties would not be spared and he mentioned the suspension of officials in the Dehradun case as an example of the government’s zero-tolerance approach. He added that such action would continue in future as well.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan convened a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday with senior officials of the Home and Police Departments to review the law & order situation in the city. Expressing concern over the rising incidents of road rage and hooliganism, the Chief Secretary also directed that surveillance be intensified and strict action be taken against offenders to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
